Talk of Gentrification in the South Bronx finally becoming fashionable

The South Bronx, some say, is improving. The New York Times certainly thinks so. "An improving Bronx has been attracting builders for several years for a simple economic reason." The reasons have something to do with dirt cheap development land. Many are talking about moving to the Bronx from Brooklyn. They think that the re-zoning will spawn another "Williamsburg." I just don't see it happening as long as its the Brooklyn property owners and management companies that are being asked for advise.
A little over a year back, LoftNinja set out to study the South Bronx and perhaps work on renting some property for a few owners that he knows up there (as you may see in the archive of this ugly blog). After having 3 spaces rented in one night, the owner instantly decided to jack the rent up another $400-600 per space. When asked as to why such ridiculous decisions were made, his only explanation was that he's been talking to the owners of the ClockTower (who happen to be Brooklyn-based landlords). Enough said.
